Supporting continuity of learning for all students
Our staff have been working hard to develop a suite of learning resources and options for students to undertake from home.
Whether your child is at school or at home, the aim is for all students to access the consistent learning content provided by our school. This may mean sending work home, either with physical materials or by making use of one of the online platforms at our school.
Learning from home
The learning will be monitored by teachers from school and covers the curriculum. This will ensure your child’s education is impacted as little as possible by the current situation.
Staff have prepared ‘Learning from Home’ packs which contain a range of activities both online and paper options for you to continue to support your child in their learning journey. These will be available to be collected from school. From Week 7 onwards these packs will include a Framework for the week with activities to do each day.
Although we have provided a number of learning activities for your child, please do not feel overwhelmed and focus on ensuring your child feels safe in these uncertain times.
Establishing routines and expectations
From the first day, you will need to establish routines and expectations. You should use the timetable or schedule provided to set regular hours for school work.
I encourage you to access the NSW Department of Education Learning from Home resources which provides practical advice to parents and carers on how to best create and support a productive learning environment in the home.
It is important that you set these expectations as soon as distance learning is implemented, not several days later after it becomes apparent a child is struggling with the absence of routine.
Communication
We have provided an invite for you to join our classroom community on ClassDojo. This will provide an opportunity for communication between home and school. Please follow the steps to join ClassDojo. Teachers can communicate with you and you can communicate with teachers through messages during normal school hours. If you have any questions or concerns around your child’s at-home-learning you can use this platform to get in contact with your classroom teacher or alternatively you can phone the school office. You can also send through pictures of your child’s learning to keep us updated.
Online learning programs
Our school has accounts for a range of digital learning programs. Student account information is contained in their packs. Teachers monitor these online programs and will set tasks, review student achievement and provide feedback on learning. Please contact the school if you need any help.
· ClassDojo (Kindergarten – Year 6)
· Epic online Reading (Years 2 -3 )
Microsoft Office Teams
At Stuarts Point Public School we also use Microsoft Office Teams to virtually connect with students. Microsoft Teams is part of the Office 365 platform and as such is free for students to access and use. More information and support can be found on the Technology page.
Thank you for your patience and understanding as we support our communities through this unprecedented health situation. Please monitor for updates.
