SPPS students have completed their school swimming scheme despite the horrible rainy weather. The younger students took part in swim and survive activities, while the older and more advanced children have improved their strokes and practiced rescue techniques. To pass their test some groups had to practise a sequence of survival skills dressed in full-length clothing to mimic an accident of falling into deep water fully clothed. A large number of volunteer parents came along to the pool each day and helped staff and swim instructors to teach the children and reduce the teacher to student ratio, enhancing the quality of instruction.
This program would not be possible without the generous help of some wonderful community members and groups who have donated toward reducing the cost of the scheme. Ian and Alison Tolson, South West Rocks Lions Club and the Stuarts Point branch of the Christian Life Centre all gave wonderful donations. Our whole school thanks this fantastic group of people for supporting such an important program for our students.
